January 19 – Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund have announced a premium partnership with Lenovo that places the global technology group as the club’s Official AI Innovation Partner.
The agreement is built around the practical use of artificial intelligence and how the technology can support decision-making, performance, and long-term development across the club.
In both elite sport and technology, the margins are thin, and the ability to process information quickly and act decisively can be the difference between success and failure.
Central to the deal is Borussia Dortmund’s ongoing digital transformation. Lenovo will supply a range of AI-ready hardware, including PCs, workstations, ThinkSmart solutions, and servers, to support operations at Signal Iduna Park and the club’s headquarters. The technology will be used to strengthen data analysis, streamline internal processes, and support faster, more informed decisions.
On the football side, improved data capabilities are expected to enhance coaching and performance analysis, while off the pitch, the same infrastructure will support business operations and strategic planning. The partnership is designed to embed AI across multiple layers of the club’s day-to-day activity.
Mirco Krebs, Vice President and CCO EMEA at Lenovo, said: “Technology can make all the difference, not only in business, but also in elite sports. As Borussia Dortmund’s AI Innovation Partner, we bring our powerful AI hardware to where every second counts: where game-changing decisions are made in a split second.”
Carsten Cramer, Speaker of the Management Board for Borussia Dortmund, added “Borussia Dortmund stands for tradition, but also for progress. We believe that modern technology can help us improve at all levels – whether on the pitch or in the organisation. We share this aspiration with Lenovo, and we look forward to taking steps together toward a smarter future.”
