February 17 – Back on the Champions Cup stage for the first time since 2023, Real CD España return with experience on their side — this is appearance number 18 for Los Aurinegros.
Qualification came via a strong run to the semifinals of the 2025 Central American Cup, and there is quiet confidence in Honduras’s San Pedro Sula ahead of another tilt at continental relevance.
Standing in their way is MLS powerhouse, Los Angeles FC, two-time finalists still chasing a first Champions Cup crown. This will be LAFC’s fourth appearance, earned through their Supporters’ Shield position, and their first-ever meeting with Honduran opposition.
The Californians arrive heavy with pedigree: World Cup winner Hugo Lloris marshals from the back, while Denis Bouanga and Son Heung-Min provide cutting edge.
For Real España, who hold a mixed record against U.S. clubs, the home leg feels vital.
Driving the club’s offensive play is Brayan Moya, a Honduran international known for his vision, versatility, and clutch performances in high-stakes matches. Moya operates as both a creator and finisher, linking midfield and attack while remaining a constant threat in and around the penalty area.
Supporting him is Jhow Benavídez, another attacking midfielder whose intelligence and creativity add depth to the squad. Benavídez excels at orchestrating build-up play, threading passes through tight defensive setups, and contributing goals when the team needs them most. Together, Moya and Benavídez provide the core offensive threat that will be crucial as Real España navigates the challenges of continental competition.
Real España’s squad blends youth and experience, giving coach Jeaustin Campos multiple tactical options. He will need to be at his wiliest to overcome Los Angeles’ leading club.
